Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival 2021 Programme Announced
The 2021 Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival will take place from Thursday 6 - Sunday 9 May.
‘With enormous pleasure, we present you with this, the 2021 Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival programme. Inside, you’ll find a wealth of Aotearoa’s literary gold, with our spotlight focused squarely on our homegrown writers. While this came about through pandemic-related necessity, it has been a real privilege to curate my first programme from among our own people. There are so many people, but also it means that we’re supporting the wellbeing of our people and the sector, as many rebuild after such a tricky year.
Stories connect us to our place and our past and help us to dream about the future, and the people who write those stories have some of the most interesting brains I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside. We hope you find events in here that amuse you, provoke you, make you gasp or laugh or maybe cry a little, and that you’ll come to as many as you can manage. Ōtepoti is a UNESCO City of Literature and these four days in May are when we can uninhibitedly revel in the love of reading for its own sake.’
