New Zealanders’ Cultural Participation in 2025
Last year the Ministry for Culture and Heritage/Manatū Taonga commissioned research to better understand New Zealanders’ participation in cultural events and activities. This research report looked at New Zealanders’ engagement in arts, culture, and heritage activities in 2025, and followed on from the Ministry’s 2020, 2022 and 2023 cultural participation research.
Interesting data includes:
14% of adults 18+ attended a literary event in the last 12 months.
64% visited a library
9% did creative writing
26% read New Zealand literature
